Why Are These Annual Evaluations Priced So Low?
What are the requirements for homeschooling parents that choose a certified teacher to review their child’s portfolio for the annual evaluation required by FL state law? Show the ceritifed teacher samples of your child’s portfolio (work) from the past year.
What are the requirements for a Florida certified teacher conducting a portfolio review for the annual educational evaluation? Review samples of the child’s portfolio (work) and determine if the child has progressed comensurate to their ability or not, and have a discussion with the child.
These common questions and their simple answers are the main reasons why I do annual evaluations at such a low price.

First of all, this is my contribution to help home educators and to promote the best educational school choice available to parents: homeschooling!
Secondly, it only takes about 2 hours (generally) to complete the portfolio review and I only charge $12.50 an hour. This isn’t brain surgery, and I have no outstanding college loans to pay (never did thankfully). I feel like it is outrageous to charge more than $35 for an evaluation, and I choose to charge less. It is my attempt to be a helpful part of our community.
If evaluators are charging more than $35 because it takes them longer to complete the evaluation, ask yourself, and them:
1. Is the “evaluator” writing “reports” about the child’s portfolio and/or progress? That’s not required for an evaluation from an evaluator. They should know better.
2. Is the evaluator demanding to see the “activity log,” “reading list,” in addition to the whole portfolio (all the child’s work)? For an annual educational evaluation, these extra items are not required by FL state law on home education.
3. How much is the evaluator charging per hour? If it is just a flat rate, how long does the evaluator estimate that the evaluation will take? How does it usually take? If the answer is more than 2 hours, then ask, why?
A standardized test, or test of any kind, is not required for the annual educational evaluation required by Florida state law on home edcuation. Standardized tests are different. They do take longer and they are more expensive.
