End of the Year Annual Portfolio Evaluation

Choosing the portfolio review for the annual evaluation is the easiest and quickest method of evaluation that can be done for the homeschooling child. Many parents are not sure what exactly needs to be done and some county home education departments seem to be a little confusing on the matter.

{email, or call me anytime, for evaluations done easily, quickly and very economically ($28) I am a FL Dept. of Education certified teacher – exp. date: 6/30/21: CCTucker7@ gmail .com -no spaces of course – OR call: 786-525-3545 or toll free 877-228-1569 C.C. Tucker}

For homeschooling a child the general requirements are to send a “Letter of Intent” to homeschool (one time ever) with the child’s name, address and D.O.B., an annual evaluation once every year at the end of the child’s “homeschool year,” and a letter of completion when finished with homeschooling (one time when completed).

First, the school year for the homeschooling child begins and ends at the time of year that the child has been registered (Letter of Intent sent to county) as a homeschool student. That is usually around he child’s birthday since they are not required to register a child until the child turns 6 years old. If the child has been withdrawn from a school they should be registered (Letter of Intent sent to county) at that time, regardless of their birthday.

Secondly, the specific requirements for the homeschooling parent are to keep a portfolio (folder/binder, etc.) containing samples of the child’s work, record a list of the items/books/periodicals, etc. the child reads, and have an annual evaluation done before the end of the child’s year. The quickest, easiest and most economical method of annual evaluation is for a certified teacher to review the child’s portfolio and document the annual evaluation letter for the county district home education office. Hi,

    My daughter is starting kindergarten this coming school year. She doesn’t turn 6 until December, but I wanted to go ahead and start when all the other kids start school. Can I go ahead and send a letter of intent now or do I have to wait until she turns 6? I would rather the end of her school year be around this time than in December.

    Yes, you may send the Letter of Intent when you like if you desire. It makes sense to me to keep on a orderly schedule like that. We have done the same. It is required no later than 30 days after they become 6 years old to my knowledge. There are no real restrictions on sending it before they have their birthday that I know of.
